Helen Hachler
8/10/1941 – 12/05/2018
Loving Wife, Mother and Nan. Will be sadly missed by Sam,
Suzanne, Andrew along with grandchildren, Fynn, Sarah, Lola, and son and
daughter in laws, Nick and Kate.
Helen fought a battle with a rare and untreatable cancer,
Acinic Cell / Adenoid Cystic Cancer of the head and neck for 3 years.
A battle fought with courage, compassion, inspiration and
dignity. Her caring heart and ever thoughtful nature was one that always held
everyone else’s needs ahead of her own.
In 2015 Helen had surgery to remove the tumor from the
saliva gland and lymph nodes in her neck and then underwent six weeks of
radiation to the affected area. Time passed and Helen along with her family
were given the positive news that she was in remission. However in early March
2018 Helen was experiencing back pain and found a small lump near her temple. A
biopsy was taken and she was given the devastating news that the cancer had
returned. Following this, PET and CT scans showed that the cancer had now
spread to her Spine, Liver, Lungs, and further tests later revealed metastasis
on her brain. The cancer behaved in such an aggressive manner, it surprising
all medical experts. Helen and her family and friends had to live with the
knowledge that there was very little treatment that had any proven success.
This latest battle with cancer was a short one and Helen
peacefully passed away on the 12th May 2018, living and loving life until the
end.
In a tribute to Helen, continuing to put others before
herself, she would have wanted to help those who are faced with a rare cancer
diagnosis. Your donation to Rare Cancer Australia on Helen’s behalf is a
fitting legacy in memory of her.
Forever in our hearts, may you Rest in Peace
