The David Collins Leukaemiacancer of blood and/or blood forming tissues Foundation of Tasmania is dedicated to financial support for the care and cureno evidence of disease; complete cancer remission of Tasmanians with leukaemia and related bloodthe red bodily fluid that transports oxygen and other nutrients around the body disorders.
The late David Collins was diagnosed with leukaemia in 1979 and soon saw a need to raise extra funds for leukaemia research and patient support in Tasmania. His friends and family committed their time and effort to the cause and the Foundation was established in 1980.
The Foundation provides:
- Financial support for patients and their families, grants for leukaemia research, improvements in medical care and welfare and for staff professional development.
- Practical support for patients with leukaemia, lymphomacancers of the lymphatic system and related disorders and for their families to assist with their treatment, welfare and other needs.
- Assistance with accommodation close to the hospital for out of town patients and their families.
- Grants for Leukaemia reserach.
- Professional development awards.
