Rally your community
Nothing brings the community together quite like school. There are plenty of opportunities to fundraise and connect with people of all ages.
Rare, less common and complex cancers can feel tricky to explain, but sharing some of your story and providing a local connection can encourage your community to get behind your fundraising efforts. Schools also have opportunities to raise awareness through newsletters, speaking at assemblies or sharing information on social media. There are often informal parents’ groups too that can help you spread your fundraising message even further.
Fundraising ideas at school
Harness the power of the whole school community with events like a mufti day, sausage sizzle or colouring competition. Schools often have a large population to draw from, so keeping it simple and asking for a gold coin donation can quickly add up to have a big impact!
Things to consider
- Schools may get lots of requests to fundraise for different causes, so plan ahead as far as you can
- Consider teaming up with groups like the school P&C to reach a larger audience, and split the proceeds
- Look up the school values and demonstrate how your fundraising aligns with them
- Share your personal connection or purpose to encourage families to share your fundraising beyond the school gates.
