Rare Cancers Australia transformed the iconic Sydney Town Hall into a spooktacular Halloween extravaganza on Friday 26th October 2018. Now in its Fifth Year, RCA scare4rare Halloween Charity Ball has proven to be Sydney’s Halloween Event of the Year. Themed with a Mad Scientist twist, guests braved their white wigs and laboratory coats and applauded the room when the curtains raised to reveal a majestic ballroom full of eccentric centrepieces and incredible balloon installations.

RCA’s Ambassador Kelly Cartwright once again inspired the crowd with her story of strength and courage. TV Personality Ed Phillips worked his debonair magic on stage as MC, ensuring guests felt welcome and relaxed while enjoying a magnificent meal of Ora King Salmon, Black Angus Beef and completing the 4-course meal with a crazy selection of themed desserts including Exploding Macaroons and Mad Scientist Scorched Hair, all served on a platter fit for a Mad Scientist!

The night was full of entertainment with acrobat and aerialist Simon Crawley commencing the show. Wowing the audience with his Cyr Wheel act, a spectacular vision performed alongside opera vocalist Angela Grima. Solo performer Phil Davidson charmed the audience with his vocals and guitar while the outstanding music from Pragmatics 11-piece band kept the guests dancing late into the night to a soundtrack of R&B hits and 80’s classics.

The night was undoubtedly a great success. With the help of our sponsors who donated fantastic prizes for our raffle, live and silent auctions along with our enthusiastic and generous guests on the night we raised an amazing $61,000. There are no words of appreciation great enough for everyone’s support and contribution.

Other than a truly successful fundraising event, it was an evening of gratitude and thanks. RCA have had many wins in 2018 and this night was to acknowledge the support of all our partners, sponsors and patients. These relationships are invaluable and precious. They give the team at RCA the encouragement and drive to continue to champion for patients, families and loved ones affected with a rare or less common cancer.
